Frequently AskedFAQ

Everything you need to know about water treatment for your South Carolina home.

Water Quality

South Carolina water commonly contains hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium), chlorine from municipal treatment, iron (especially in well water causing orange staining), hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), manganese (black staining), sediment, and in some areas elevated levels of lead, arsenic, or nitrates. Our free water test analyzes your specific water quality to identify exactly what treatment you need.

Orange or brown staining is caused by iron in your water. Even small amounts (0.3 ppm) can cause visible staining on fixtures, laundry, and dishes. Iron is common in well water and can also come from corroding pipes. Our BIF Series filters remove iron up to 30 ppm using natural oxidation - the iron is converted to a solid form and filtered out without chemicals.

Hard water contains high concentrations of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. These minerals are picked up as water travels through limestone, chalk, and other rock formations common throughout South Carolina's geology. Hard water causes scale buildup in pipes and appliances, spots on dishes, and dry skin and hair.

Our Systems

The Hydrotech 89 Series uses ion exchange technology with Up Flow Regeneration. Hard water flows through a tank containing resin beads that attract and hold calcium and magnesium ions, replacing them with sodium ions. When the resin is saturated, the system regenerates by flushing with salt brine. Up Flow Regeneration is more efficient because it pushes hardness minerals up through depleted resin first, using 46% less salt and 67% less water than traditional downflow systems.

Reverse osmosis (RO) forces water through a semi-permeable membrane with microscopic pores (0.0001 microns). This removes up to 99% of dissolved contaminants including lead, arsenic, fluoride, nitrates, sodium, and dissolved solids. The Aqua Flo tankless RO system delivers pure water on demand without a storage tank, ensuring fresh-tasting water every time.

The Aqua Flo CRO-800UX6 removes total dissolved solids (93.6%+ rejection), lead, cysts (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), chlorine and chloramines, PFOS/PFAS, fluoride, nitrates, arsenic, and hundreds of other contaminants. It delivers up to 800 gallons per day of purified drinking water through a dedicated faucet available in multiple finishes.

Cost & Savings

According to the Water Quality Research Foundation, a high-efficiency water softener can save up to $479 annually through reduced soap/detergent use (up to 75% less), lower water heating costs (up to 29% savings), extended appliance lifespan, and fewer plumbing repairs. The Hydrotech 89 Series can save over $2,750 in operating costs over 15 years compared to traditional softeners.

Salt usage depends on your water hardness, water consumption, and system efficiency. The Hydrotech 89 Series uses 46% less salt than traditional softeners due to Up Flow Regeneration technology. A typical family of four with moderately hard water might use 40-50 pounds of salt per month with a standard softener, but only 20-30 pounds with our high-efficiency systems. This saves money and is better for the environment.

System costs vary based on your water quality needs and home size. Water softeners typically range from $1,500-$3,500 installed. Whole-house filtration ranges from $1,000-$2,500. Under-sink RO systems range from $500-$1,500. We provide free quotes with no obligation and offer financing options to make quality water affordable.

Yes, we offer flexible financing options to fit your budget. Many customers qualify for low monthly payments that are often less than what they spend on bottled water. Ask about our current financing promotions during your free consultation.

Installation & Maintenance

Most installations are completed in 2-4 hours. Water softeners and whole-house filters typically take 2-3 hours. Under-sink RO systems take 1-2 hours. Complex whole-house RO systems may take 4+ hours. We schedule installations at your convenience and clean up completely when finished.

Water softeners need salt added periodically (every 4-8 weeks for most families) and occasional resin cleaning. Filters need cartridge replacement every 3-12 months depending on type. RO membranes last 2-3 years. UV lamps need annual replacement. We offer maintenance plans that include all service visits, parts, and priority scheduling.

Filter lifespan varies by type and usage. Carbon filters in the NRV System typically last 3-5 years or over 1 million gallons. The BIF Series media lasts 5-10 years under normal conditions. Sediment pre-filters should be changed every 3-6 months. We include filter life monitoring in our maintenance plans and will notify you when replacement is needed.
